found the lyrics of the song playing during the final sequences:

It's the End Of The World

So it seems like the final few scenes are consisting of everyone making the choices that lead up to the apocalyptic future.
The kiss was lit really yellow, and they usually only light the DP yellow when bad shit is going down. It was almost like the Chlark scene in Nemesis.
