You know, sometimes I wonder why everyone clings to hope with this show.
Then I remember S4's overall quality contrasted with the awesome of the finale.
...um, too bad that didn't exactly set a precedent for saving crappy seasons with epic awesome in the end, since it hasn't happened since. BUT I SEE WHERE WE COULD GET THE FALSE HOPE THAT IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN

If I could trace back the moment where Lana finally started to become interesting to me, this was it. I hated Mary Sue Lana of S3 with a passion, and nobody was a fan of S4 Mulana, but after this it really always seemed more like there was a person in there somehow. I didn't actually actively enjoy her until the end of S6 when they went all-out in making her dark, but this was still good stuff.

SHELBYYYYY.
Also, JACK BAUER COME SAVE SMALLVILLE LOL

I love that shot of Lana with the blood in the foreground. Beeman, why so awesome?

I love Lois' slippers to death. (The middle caps are Clark's reaction to hearing Lois is going to Europe ahahaha)

Clark with his one single dress shirt that he owns!
Also: "What are your plans after Europe? Gonna go back to school? Maybe actually stay a little while?" ZING! I mean, absolutely nothing beats the muffin-peddler line, but points for effort.
I actually like this whole scene between them, though, even if the anvils are painful. Lois' career aptitude test telling her she should be a radio disc jockey is brilliant.

I love how it's obviously raining like crazy and yet the lighting seems determined to convince us it's sunny. At the end I keep yelling for Chloe to put the top up on her convertible. Speaking of, SHE IS WAY TOO EXCITED AT THE METEOR SHOWER COMING TO DESTROY THE TOWN, AND IT IS ADORABLE.

At this point I was yelling, "TURN AROUND YOU IDIOT YOU ARE MISSING ONE AMAZING LOVELORN LOOK OF PINING HERE!"
Of course, he doesn't turn around.
And of course, Lex looks back one more time as he leaves. Oh, boys. Why so OTP.

This scene = still one of the best ever.

I remember the universal reaction to this at the time of airing being, "Wow, that didn't really suck." It didn't! Overall, I think it's so much easier when they're together than to deal with Clark's whining when they're apart. And I really do like Lana calling in her years of dealing with SECRETS AND LIES as payback for Clark not asking any questions.

JENSEN SURVIVING THE FALLING OFF THE CLIFF AFTER GETTING SHOT IN THE CHEST TO SHOW UP FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WILL NEVER NOT BE FUNNY.

"You mean a lot more to me than you know." They'd been setting it up forever, but this was the big They're Going There flag. Considering how badly it all ended up by the end and how embarrassingly it all finished for Lex as a character, I forget how much I genuinely liked them together in S5.
Even now, I still feel like angry sex is in their future someday!

OH HI GUESS WHO'S SHOWN UP TO BE TOTALLY AWESOME

I was so delighted at this scene. I USED TO SHIP THEM LIKE BURNING. Seriously, they were my first het SV ship, I was so obsessed with them.
Also, MR really brings the *~super crazy~* in this scene. You can actually see the veins popping out of his head. And I remember AM said in an interview the day after they filmed this, that she had bruises on her arms from this scene. D:

*~INSERT "BEGONE FROM HERE BEFORE SOMEONE DROPS A HOUSE ON TOP OF YOU!~!" joke here.

STILL THE MOST AWESOME MOMENT EVER?

Loved Chloe lying for Clark without betraying a hint of the truth.

YES. And it kills that Lex gets right back up. Just three steps and he would have been there.

WHY. SO. AWESOME.

AFTER A BULLET AND FALLING OFF A GIANT CLIFF OVER A RIVER WITH A SWIFT CURRENT DID NOT KILL HIM, NOW HE DED FROM HOUSE. I love this show.

I do like Vessel, though.

I like Vessel, but the Clark/Lex showdown's dialogue was just not up to par. That should have been epic and amazing, but it fell so flat, and didn't ring true the way stuff in "Nemesis" or even the last scene of "Abyss" did. That colors the rest of the episode for me even though I like pretty much every other scene a lot.
