meimichi: (hanadan // got your arrows stuck in me)

I had my final class of the week - morning Japanese Lit with Roddy-sensei. I was falling asleep and felt awful, since I love his class. I'd been sitting near the front out of habit (since unless you sat up front last semester you could never hear him) and got a text message from Erika, the other officer in Japan Club, to say she was in the same class and was sitting in back. *giggle*

So after class, we went to lunch, which was great, because I've always liked her but we've never actually hung out together. I asked her if she'd been watching Hanadan 2, and she said no. So I asked, "...um, do you want to?"

So, I took her back to my dorm and we watched all of S2 in one go. [livejournal.com profile] nihongofrancais called me in the middle of episode one to tell me that the torrent was up for the new episode, so I was downloading as we watched the rest. *giggle*

In any case...watching with someone else fangirling it is the best. Especially when they're as awesome as Erika, who, while she is not quite into mocking the coats and hair as I am, regularly yells, "CHEER UP, EMO BOY!" at the screen. And she'd brought a Stitch plushie and kept hugging it and chewing on its ear during the really sad teary parts.

For the new episode...um, I'm pretty sure that my entire dorm heard us screaming. I mean, they must have. Because we were screaming a lot.

Let's get the most important news out of the way first:

RUI'S HAIR HAS RETREATED. It remains to be seen whether it has admitted defeat, or if this is just a tactical move. Some kind of feint, if you will?! STAY TUNED!

I was beside myself with sorrow. First Tsukasa's hair, then Tsukasa's coats, then Junpei left and took his coats with him, and now Rui's evil face-eating hair was gone as well?

But my show loves me still. How do I know?!

That is possibly the second-worst coat he's ever had. Of course nothing beats out Ueno Zoo, but...damn. ♥ Oh, show. YOU NEVER DISAPPOINT ME. EVER.

And now, moving on...

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I think my favorite part of watching with Erika was that she feels the same way I do about Rui: I love him, but don't want him to succeed with Tsukushi because, hi, OTP! But yet I love Rui and want him to be happy! So both of us were screaming in painfully high-pitched voices, "RUIIIIIII! RUIRUIIIII!!" at regular intervals.

Favorite part of the episode: definitely the end, which finally, finally delivered. I doubt things will be smooth sailing for Tsukushi and Tsukasa, and still wouldn't blame her if she told Tsukasa after hearing about Rui's honki-ness, "All you do is make me cry, so I'm going to Rui!" even now...like Yuuki said, even Tsukushi has limits on how far she can be pushed! But it was totally satisfying to finally end an episode on the note where the other two people in the love-square were left upset and sad, for once!!

But, I feel like the distance between them is finally closed. Tsukasa doesn't seem as worried about his problems anymore. On the one hand it's surprising, since everything seemed so insurmountable in the early episodes. On the other, he's finally made his choice that he wants to be with Tsukushi no matter what, so I think he's putting the issues on hold since otherwise he's at risk of losing her forever.

I actually think they could get back together sooner rather than later, since there's still so many problems around them that need fixing: Shigeru (not a big deal, once she lets things sink in I know she'll back them up), Rui (slightly bigger deal, harder to convince, but also will back them up in the end), Doumyouji's mom (huge deal), and Tsukasa's New York trauma (biggest deal!).

I loved Tsukasa buying the apartment and invading Tsukushi's place. He was so desperate. He was beyond desperate. It was wonderful and funny and just brilliant. (I was kinda hoping for a kiss when he pinned her down on the floor though. Woe!) He and Susumu are a great combination, too. And the return of the, "Language can't be strong or weak, because it's just words!" running gag!!

Though Tsukasa totally snapping and going off the spool in the middle of the cafeteria was possibly the funniest thing in the history of the show. MatsuJun was hilarious with the physical comedy as he fell flat on his face on the stairs! We were screaming at the curry thing, screaming.

Altogether, Tsukasa himself was basically the highlight of the episode. Finally we got to see him a little bit back to his old self, except now he's just...more. He's a deeper character because of these last few episodes, and yet when he acts like a dork now, he's more ridiculous than ever. I really love him. It was good to see that he hadn't lost his brighter side completely, and I think they drew out the angst for exactly the right amount of time. I was still enjoying it last week but felt if they kept stretching it out and longer, it would get old.

I also loved Rui this whole episode. The reason for his feelings for Tsukushi growing because she's become more like the Shizuka he fell in love with...I felt I should have seen that coming, but I hadn't! Suddenly everything with Rui made more sense and felt deeper to me. He was just awesome the whole episode. I've always sought out the proper description of Rui, but Tsukushi nailed it with this episode: マイペース. *laugh* When he said, "牧野の事、好きだからかも"!! Him kissing her! Her freaking out and him being all, "あれ?だめだった?" And, "I wanted to. So I did. I can't help it." HEE. But...why doesn't Rui know better? Usually he knows those two better than anyone, and I couldn't believe he didn't realize that their hearts can't be swayed from each other. Oh, well...

I love everyone in this love square, I can't help it. It's just so sad that people have to get hurt!

The only problem watching the episode was that Erika and I were laughing so hard over Tsukasa spacing out during his date with Shigeru, we totally missed the line where Shigeru said she'd gotten a hotel room. So the impact of the scene was kind of lost since neither of us really realized what was going on until it was too late. Really good on the rewatch though.

Also, can I just say....PRETTIEST EPISODE SO FAR. OMG. Especially the last scene with Tsukushi and Tsukasa!!

SO PRETTY.

Erika and I both screamed, "TURN IT OFF!" and then screamed in joy when he DID.

OMG SO PRETTY

It was the same walk he did when he saw the photos in the cafeteria in S1. :( ONLY PRETTIER

Rui: also v. pretty

Best shot of the episode, love Tsukasa leaning in the doorway.

We both snickered and made comments that may or may not have included the word "emo" in them. Oh, MatsuJun. It's okay, you've been insanely talented otherwise so I won't hold these five seconds of cheesy emo-ness against you.

I'm totally like that when people try to wake me up, too!

This whole scene was great. I really love these two in their scenes together. And the SOUNDS MatsuJun was MAKING!!!!!!

Reminded me of Chiaki and Nodame!

PPLD! (This drama needs more of it. Woe.)

Yeah, Tsukasa snapping was definitely one of my favorite scenes of the whole series. :D

SOUJIROU'S FACE AT THE CURRY COMMENT. OMG. OMG. OMG.

HE KILLS ME.

SO. DEAD.

AND HE CALLS HIMSELF A GENIUS AFTERWARDS OH MY GOD

We were both laughing so hard at this. The leaves blowing by were a great touch!

We were also laughing so hard at Tsukasa spacing out that we totally, totally missed Shigeru's line about having gotten a room at the hotel and were v. confused during the scene.

OMG. The pillows on the sofa have the unicorn tapestries on them!!!! Which strikes me as appropriate for this scene!!!!

I loved it so much on the rewatch though!! The whole episode, after he'd already had his big defining moment last time, I was like, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"

And then this scene came, and you could tell Tsukasa was asking himself that very question, too!

Loved this.

omg that suit is so hot

here have some more caps of it omggggg

PRETTY COLORS!!!

YOU HAVE NOT FORSAKEN MEEEEEEEE, SHOW!!!!!!

He was so gorgeous in this scene.

This was just pretty.

Dude, that is the weakest excuse ever made. In the history of the entire world.

I really love this place, though I actually screamed, "SHE CAN'T LEAVE HER OLD HOUSE, I WANT TO MARRY THE WALLPAPER!!" But aside from the wallpaper, Tsukushi's room is too cluttered-looking to do anything much with any caps there. This place has just enough color and just enough open space, though!

Liked this scene quite a bit.

Is this the same house as in S1? Because they lit it like 1000 times prettier this time, I love it!!

REALLY LOVE THE LIGHTING HERE

Aaaaaah, when she told him, "Just being here like this, with you, is almost more than I can handle..." !!!

MatsuJun leans v. prettily. I vote that he does it more often. (Really, it seems like since they're more willing to move the camera this year, everyone's blocking has been a lot more creative and fun.)

"Are you serious?"

"But for me...the flavor of love is..."

"The taste of your..."

"...crappy cookies." !!!!!!!!!!!!

I was remarking that cell phones in this series are never used when they ought to be (COUGH EBISU COUGH) and always ring when they shouldn't.

omg

OMG

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

(these are all necessary shut up)

I feel badly for Shigeru but at least these two got busted for once with each other instead of with someone else!

I think MatsuJun did a great job here...he looks just sorry enough for you to think Tsukasa's still a good guy, but not sorry enough to let you think he has a single regret.

I felt bad for Rui a little...

...but felt a million times worse for Shigeru because she was totally blindsided.

OMG OMG OMG!!!

What made this AWESOME? Cutting out "Flavor of Life" at this bit to give it that much more impact!!!

And then there was more SCREAMING. But at least I don't feel in total agony about the wait for next week as I have in the past.

NEXT WEEK: Rui and Tsukasa fight it out. I say there should be hot oil involved, Y/N?

I think watching with Erika will now be a regular post-class Friday activity. Hurrah!

...I think I've broken up with VM. Maybe I'll end up getting desperate and going back once Hanadan ends, but otherwise this is the first show I've been madly, insanely in love with since VM S1, and I'm just enjoying loving a show like that again.
