...idk was I the only one who was hoping when Lucy was in the preview, this special was actually going to ELABORATE on their relationship and all the crazy shit that went down last year?
I was so excited to see Lucy back, it felt really anti-climatic to kill her off right away :/ But I guess the writers always tended to see her differently to the way fandom generally wanted to pereceive her and her relationship with the Master. I remember all of the awesome fic and spec coming out after The Sound of Drums when they were the evil pair working together, but then TLOTTL just turned into the abused victim of the Master
I love the Master as a character and their relationship and sexual tension, but the Master kind of has been failing as a villain because 1) his plans are spectacularly ridiculous, 2) unlike the other major players in the Doctor's rogues gallery, I really do feel like all of the *~issues~* could be worked out if they would just DO IT ALREADY and diffuse some of that built-up UST.
The Master ends up coming across as more sad and completely screwed up than some evil diabolical mastermind, so part of me always ends up thinking that he needs Ten to help him resolve his ~issues~ and the drums more than anything. He comes across as so sick and unbalanced that the tension is lost for me in all of his cracky schemes, so yeah I basically just end up watching it for his relationship with the Doctor *g*
