Finished up to episode six of Hanadan S1 with Ayako tonight. We were both giggling so hard at Tsukasa being a total dork during the Ueno Zoo date ("Until you've decided how you feel, I'll wait. ...you'll regret it if you let a fantastic guy like me slip away, though!!"). I just marathoned the whole first season with
murasaki_kaze two weeks ago, am watching again with Ayako, and yet still I am going, "Ah, there was once a day when this show made me laugh! As opposed to crying my eyes out and hugging my pillow for days on end, until the next episode came out to hurt me even more, starting the vicious cycle all over again? Sweet, sweet nostalgia!"
I have to be awake in a few hours for my first class of the semester. But.
I CAN'T STOP PICSPAMMING. It's like a disease! And because of the whole nostalgia factor...
Once upon a time there was a poor-yet-awesome girl.

She went to a school with a bunch of rich whores.

Some were more whorish than others.

Though some were really hot rich whores, so that made them totally okay.

And one very, very special boy...

Was the biggest rich whore of all.

And one day, our heroine got tired of his crap.

This was still way back in the day when Rui was near the beginning of his quest to read The Great Gatsby at the breakneck rate of one word per day.

There's something of an altercation...

...which, long story short...

...ends with Tsukushi punching him in the face.

So being the richest kid in Japan with endless resources for revenge, he plots to kidnap her via his minions...

And then he.........has his minions give her a makeover. (I LOVE THIS SHOW)

I totally love this moment, everything about the way it's filmed. The very first time I watched, this was the Defining Moment where you knew he loved her. And every time, I wonder how things would have gone down if he'd gotten to her first.

WACKY SHOUJO ANTICS FTW

This is Tsukasa's sister. Pretty much everyone who watches the drama has a massive girlcrush on her.

Including me, obviously. OMG, Matsushima, take me to your hair salon!!

Tragically, Tsukasa must bid farewell to Rui. Their platonic manlove can be no longer!

If it were TRUE LOVE you would have been running along the runway as it took off yo.

I totally forgot about this scene until rewatching, and I can't believe I did because it's one of my favorites. For one, LOOK AT THAT SHIRT. For another, the way F4 does nothing but sit around like sorority girls gossiping about their FEEEEEEEEELINGS absolutely kills me. The hilarity of Tsukasa writing a note to Rui all, "SO UM HEY DO U LIEK THAT GIRL?" just...yeah. *DIES*

Oh god I love this.

"READ A BOOK." AAAHAHAHA

Sigh. Good times.

And now we will squeeze as many shoujo manga cliches into a single episode as is humanly possible. Caught in an elevator? Check!

Almost falling down the elevator shaft? Check!

Boy getting ill and needing to be doted on? Check!

Snuggling? Check!

"Why are we the only ones here?"
"Oh, I bought the restaurant."
"Ah, I see.......wait, YOU WHAT?!!"
"You said you wanted us to have a talk alone!"

THIS IS STILL THE MOST HILARIOUS SHIT EVER.

This cracks my shit up for multiple reasons.
1) Tsukasa's jacket says "CHUBBY" on it.
2) Apparently Tsukasa's taste in jackets has not changed in the past ten years.
3) Apparently none of F4's taste in clothing has changed in the past ten years. Look at Akira's BELT.

GOD WOULD IT HAVE KILLED THEM TO SHINE A LIGHT IN THIS SCENE

...I miss this. :(

And this is a totally random moment, but one I really really love. Soujirou asks what they're gonna do about Sakurako...

...and they both just look at each other in understanding and don't say anything. It just shows how close they'd gotten. I love the last few minutes of this episode, everything is going so well for them.

Really, I love it when they're kind of shoving each other around. They're both so happy! But there were no decent, non-blurry caps of the shoving. Woe.

Oh and in case anyone not me isn't noticing...there's been clothing continuity across the seasons. Without even actively looking, I've noticed that this is the same knit hoodie Rui wears while falling on top of Makino on the lounge couch, Tsukasa wears the same jacket in the final scene as he does as his tuxedo jacket for his birthday party, and that military-style jacket with the red trim Tsukasa wore to Shizuka's party reappeared during the scene where Tsukasa talked about his family responsibility to F4.

I MISS THE DORKY SMILE.

GIRLCRUSHES.

Rui's hair: has acheived sentience, still in the planning stages of the face-eating, but definitely ready to begin the assault soon!

"ありえねえっつの!!" I LOVE THE FACE HE MAKES SAYING IT TOO.

This is probably the prettiest scene between them except for their last one, AND TSUKASA IS WEARING THAT FUCKING COAT.

TO GO TO THE ZOO.

I CAN'T BELIEVE SOMEONE DIDN'T MISTAKE HIM FOR A RUNAWAY ANIMAL AND STICK HIM IN A CAGE. LOOK AT HOW PRETTY THE COLORS ARE HERE AND THAT GODAWFUL JACKET IS RUINING IT ALL. (Sniff. No clothing continuity for the fugly jackets in S2! On the one hand, MatsuJun looks gorgeous and it fits with Tsukasa's insistence that he's become an adult. On the other...I miss mocking the coats and the hair. And Oguri will have to get a fricking haircut sooner or later, there's still twelve episodes left. And when he does, then where will I beeee?)

"You're such an idiot."

"You're the idiot!"

Okay, then I got a little bored and skipped ahead until I found another fugly jacket appearance.

And some more until here, which is OMG. ASKFLEALKFRNALA';f,aea/. "ナイスアイデアだと思わない?ナイスアイ.......アイラブユー?" AHHHHHHH

I really love this post-slapping cap for some reason.

And while the lighting in this scene is frankly shameful, I can't believe this hasn't merited a spot on the Greatest Hits of Tsukushi/Tsukasa S2 flashback sets. I love this scene!

It just...totally highlights the way these two make each other better.

"You have F4 on your side. How can you have anything to fear?" LIFE WAS SO SIMPLE BACK THEN

Love this shot.

Some people thought the finale was over-the-top. I CANNOT IMAGINE WHY.

Also: OH MY GOD THAT COAT. LOOK AT IT. IT'S BRIGHT PINK. AND FURRY. HAHAHA. ...and that's the last of the jacket-mocking. *sheds tear*

I love the way he's just like, "Oh, that skirt looks good on you." Hee!

OKAY FAVORITE SCENE OF S1 TIME. "大事なこと?" He just looks so hopeful here, I love iiit.

"嬉しいだろ?"

"ありえないっつの...!"

"うそつけ。お前、俺にほれてんだ."

"ほれてるよ...!"

HAPPY END.

At least until the sequel comes and then everyone just wants to curl up in a ball and die!
...I would love to say, "Well, now that's out of my system!" but unfortunately, while doing this, I realized that there is yet another picspam I need to do for Hanadan. I am convinced it is an idea of pure genius.
Naturally, that means there will probably only be one person on the internets who will really appreciate it. But that's okay, I think we're used to that.
Oh, tonight was awesome. Ayako, her roommate, a few other people, and I all got together to finish the end of the curry rice leftovers. There was still a lot of rice left, so Ayako and her roommate wanted to make onigiri with it. Apparently in Korea, it's normal to tear up nori in strips and mix it in with the rice before making it. Ayako and I were both surprised since when they took out the nori we thought it would be omusubi. ;P Her roommate is really nice -- while we were making the onigiri (it was my first time doing it, Ayako tried to teach me how to make a proper shape but I was totally shippai) her roommate went, "You two are watching the drama about F4?!!" *grin* I forgot how various incarnations of Hanadan have popularity across Asia; she'd seen Meteor Garden. Hanadan: the great social/cultural equalizer?!!
