ALERT ALERT ALERT
OGURI SHUN IS THE MOST ADORABLE THING ON PLANET EARTH
OKAY WE ALREADY KNEW THAT BUT I CAN AT LEAST NOW CONFIRM HIS CUTENESS IS NOT A HIGHLY ELABORATE ONSCREEN SPECIAL EFFECT??
I was really worried about getting lost since I hadn't been there before, and rushed over to the theater without eating dinner to make sure I'd have time to find it. But there were no worries, it was really super-close to the station. I was looking at the map in the station, and two other foreign girls came up next to me to look at it too. I asked if they were going to Roppongi Hills, and they said, "Are you going to see Oguri Shun, too?" Score!
So we walked over to the theater together, and waited in the lobby, buying merchandise and movie concession food. I had the first showing while they had one a half-hour later, though, so I went on alone to find my seat.

Theater! And stage setup!
I think the theater seated about 625 people, according to the ticket site. I guessed the "event" for the first showing was a press conference, and it stopped just short of being one: tons of photographers and TV cameras in the theater. The event was sponsored by (surprisingly!! ;P) Kirin and Sony Ericson, so the stage was set up with their ads as the background and there were little tables with the Kirin tea on them. Everyone got a free Kirin poster of Shun in the same style as the billboard and train ad campaign. :3

Poster! Which I just fell on and creased. Go me. Now it's sitting under a stack of magazines in hopes of smoothing it out.

Theater audience!
I got seated, and when it got to start time, Sakai Kanako came out and introduced herself as Oguri-kun's costar from Kisaragi, acting as the host for the event. She was terribly cute and charming, and said photos were only allowed for press, and if any fans tried to take photos, the "theater security people with the scary faces" would come track them down. "If Oguri-kun comes in here and has to see that, he'll be so sad, so please don't take photos, okay!!"
She announced him, and he came walking out: he had on jeans, a beige jacket over a wifebeater, and a black fedora. What little could be seen of his hair looked good, so I gather the disaster that was the new Sano hair was at least not permanent.
He came from the door on my side of the theater, waving to the fans on that side. Then Sakai scolded him for only waving to the fans on the side that he walked in on, and she made him walk all over the stage, as he made a really cute production out of dramatically waving to each part of the theater in turn.
I can't remember all of their talk, but they settled down and she remarked that it was amazing the event had sold out over 2000 seats in four hours (it would have been MINUTES if the website hadn't broken down ;P). He agreed, and said, "Though I'm looking around, and I only see girls' faces here... Excuse me, but I'm wondering, are there any guys here tonight? Who bought the tickets on their own because they wanted to come?" About five guys in the theater raised their hands. Oguri was like, "....sorry, guys, that it turned out to be this kind of thing!" ♥
Oguri asked, "Are they really showing three movies in a row?" Sakai confirmed that they were. Then he apologized to the audience again really cutely: "When you see the person next to you starting to drop off, please, poke them in the shoulder and wake them up? Let's all work together to stay awake that way!!"
They talked a bit about each of the three movies on that screen in turn. For Crow's Zero, he talked about whenever he'd be getting pissy over anything offscreen on set, he would get praised by everyone: "Oh, Oguri-kun, you're getting so deep into the role!!" For Kisaragi, he was just like, "....LOL." And he talked about how the director for Robocon made him work for three straight days on one scene, refusing to give the okay for them to go ahead until it was perfect. He said it's a strong memory of being twenty and being so impressed that a director would take that much time to get something right, mixed with the frustration of wondering what on earth he was doing so wrong that it took three days to get the take. Since the other two movies were made last year, he said he felt last year was a very important year for him, and of course a festival couldn't have happened at all without those two movies being made.
The whole time, he kept looking only at Sakai as he was speaking, and she kept scolding him really cutely, "Don't look at me! Look at your fans! They came all this way to see you and you're looking at me instead?!" He was like, "Sorry!! Sorry!!" She asked him to talk about his current work, but rather than anything really relevant, he chose to plug the sponsors by saying he'd been hard at work with ad campaigns. ♥
Then they did a raffle for one audience member to recieve a gift bag from Oguri. He was SO CUTE doing the raffle. ♥ ♥ ♥ He pulled out the seat number out of a box, and announced, "The winner is.......................row J...!"and every single girl in row J gasped audibly, and he whispered really cutely in a girly tone, "'Oh no! He said row J! I'm in row J, could it be me?!!'" Then he added, "Row J, seat.........1......." and there were louder gasps from a smaller section, as he laughed again, "'Oh no! It's a seat that starts in the teens! COULD IT BE ME?!'" Then he announced it was seat 17 or something and everyone applauded the woman who won. Sakai said the staff would bring the bag to her later on, and Oguri was joking around like, "Plz to not stalk the poor winner and attempt to steal the gift bag, everyone, okay!" ♥
Sakai said they had special guests who had come to support Oguri-kun, but then someone told her offstage that they weren't ready yet, so to kill time they decided to take questions from the audience.
The woman they called on clearly just blurted out the first thing that came into her head, which was: "For the Kirin CM, how much tea did you have to drink during filming?"
Oguri answered, "About three liters in all! Chug, chug chug! For every take, I was trying really hard to chug the entire bottle, but every time there would be about 50ml at the bottom of the bottle that I just couldn't get to..." Then as soon as he answered that, the guests were ready, so that was the only question asked. ;;;
Then all three directors from all three movies came out!! The audience was like, "WTF MIIKE CAME?!!!" They asked all the directors to give a message to Oguri-kun, and Miike was like, "LOL I just came because I was free and figured why not." The Kisaragi director said he thought his was the movie that would most appeal to the (girly) audience that night, and that Oguri was capable of great things and the world should take notice, things like that.
Then there was a photo opportunity for the press with all the guests, then just of Oguri alone. After that was over, Sakai asked him to deliver a closing message. He was like, "Well, it's not like I set out with the goal of this kind of event ever happening. And even I'm getting bored hearing myself talk on about myself, so...I'll stop here!" ♥ He exited, waving to the fans again on his way out, and once the press left the theater, the lights went down.
Before the movie started, they showed the Kirin and Sony Ericson CMs. Girls made squeaky noises over the Kirin CM. I don't blame them. HOW DO YOU MAKE CHUGGING A BEVERAGE SO HOT, OGURI.
I hadn't seen any of the movies so I was excited, though...I was guilty of falling asleep. ;;;
Kisaragi: god, every single time I see Koide Keisuke in something, I never recognize him. I spend the entire time going, "I know I know you, but who ARE you?" You know how after Anmitsu-hime, I was like, "OMG YOU GUYS MASUMI-CHAN IS HOT?" Well, Masumi-chan is exponentially hotter than THAT in this movie. D: I knew almost all of the cast, and I loved this movie to pieces. It was completely different from what I expected, and I adored the whole stage-play-like setup of never leaving the room for the movie's duration. The whole story was really cleverly crafted, and I loved how the emotional tension rang true while still allowing for the hilarious utter absurdity of the whole "fanboys solving the mysterious death of their D-list idol" concept.Also, Oguri megane moe ftw. And otaku dance ending credits!!
And uhhhh yeah I totally fell asleep after Kisaragi. I was dozing through basically all of Crow's Zero. I just sort of nodded off periodically.And would briefly wake up and think woozy, inappropriate thoughts about how despite how awesome Oguri was in the movie, his ass was way too fine to be wasted as a delinquent. I was like, "People should be lining up around the block with offers to get this boy off the streets by having him model their jeans." I kept dozing off over and over, so I really couldn't follow the thread of the story, aside from knowing asskicking was involved in large quantities. The showdown scene with the two gangs facing off in the rain and throwing away their umbrellas was pretty cool, though I fell asleep before it reached a conclusion. An awful lot of girls around me were sleeping through it with their coats drawn around them like blankets, I couldn't help but 600+ twentysomething girls were probably not the target audience.
And Robocon I only was awake for the very beginning and the very end. At least there was megane moe in the beginning (though not as moe as the Kisaragi glasses). The story seemed interesting in an unique kind of way, but I couldn't really get into it because I just wanted to punch Nagasawa Masami in the face. I'm not sure if this is because I just could not handle that much cloying cuteness at four in the morning, or just because apparently this is the week to be punching Nagasawa in the face and I can't be blamed for wanting to hop on board with the trend? Whatever, Ryo started it.

The screen and movie announcements~

My screen!

Helloooo, Tokyo Tower just past sunrise!
And then I shuffled my way home. I strangely got my second wind after getting home and into my bed, but I really need to get to bed so I can wake up in time for my dinner invitation tonight. I'm guessing my sleep schedule is pretty shot to hell now. BUT WORTH IT. ♥

oh man.
Date: 2008-04-12 02:06 am (UTC)I also laughed way inappropriately re: the Masami remark. I thought I was the only one who finds her cutesiness grating - I think it's the hamhanded way she goes about projecting, "OHO, LOOK AT ME, I'M SO CUTE! AND JAPAN LOVES ME!" and her voice that do the most damage though. Because, you know, aside from that, she's not that terrible of an actress.
But thank you for sharing this report - you're so lucky that you were able to attend. :)

Date: 2008-04-13 12:21 pm (UTC)I actually liked Nagasawa a lot in Last Friends this week, and she looked pretty cool in the trailer for Kakushi Toride no San Akunin...but in this movie she was trying way too hard. Very, "Tee hee, I'm adorable and I totally know it!" Nobody should have to deal with that much put-on cuteness at four AM! D:

So he replied that he had no clue about NY or America, but he did know about Hong Kong since he was constantly in the newspapers over there.

Date: 2008-04-14 04:15 pm (UTC)He doesn't have a type in looks when it comes to girls. But he wants a girl who has similar interests as him.
As for when he is drinking, he likes this Japanese dish. I think it's like the snacks that are simmered in soy sauce for a long time.
During this time, they kept mentioning Kirin beer, but when I first met him 2 years ago he was drinking Asahi beer. It could be because Oguri Shun is promoting for Kirin's tea. I'm not sure. But there was a lot of talk about drinking.
