Chloe spying on people like Lana. Ew. She's really not even Chloe anymore. I don't believe in this version of her at all. When Lana pulled that shit, WHO UNPLUGGED THE FEED OF LEX'S APARTMENT AND REFERRED TO LANA'S ACTIONS AS "TOTALLY DEPRAVED"? OH RIGHT.

(Also, I know Ollie is pretty drunk, but how do you NOT NOTICE A CAMERA IN YOUR BELT? Secondly, why would anyone want to put a camera in Ollie's BELT? You are just going to end up seeing some stuff you do not want to see.)

Chloe and Gaeta have good chemistry (or maybe it's just because their scenes are the only time we get to see two good actors sharing a scene on this show anymore), but they seemed to have dialed back on the overly obvious awkward attempts at sexual tension in the premiere. Now it's looking like they won't even be giving Chloe enough screentime anymore this year to have her own love interest anyway, though. IN CONCLUSION I DON'T GIVE A FUCK

Except that Chloe saved the world. Again. WITH LESS THAN SIX MINUTES OF SCREENTIME TOO.

Ollie's speechifying to Lois was bad on the laying-it-on-heavy Lana level. I did like how he was asking her to tell him he is full of shit, though. Lollie and Chlark are obviously being set up as the two pairings where the girls call the boys on their shit and make their heroes who they need to be. But the execution was awful, not helped by JH's lack of acting ability. (Also, if Ollie was carrying around drugs that kept him awake, WHY DIDN'T HE SHARE?! Sheesh.)

So basically we have both Chloe and Nois and both of them are displaying qualities of Lana at her worst. BITE ME, SMALLVILLE.

ANYWAY HAVE ANOTHER OLDSKOOL PICSPAM INSTEAD.

I was overcome with overwhelming nostalgia for the days when this show had Metropolis be BLUE. Specifically the episodes where Beeman was directing and would just make it blue all over the place. (Asylum is next on my list.)

...I think this is the first time I've never put Chloe in a picspam preview but her Metropolis scene just wasn't blue enough, sorryyyy

This might be in my top five scenes for them ever. I love it that much.

I think part of it is that this kind of scene where both parties just explode is something that could only happen with these two. Even when Clark and Lex fought, it was always a slow burn; even the punching in Mortal is almost in slow-motion and that somehow makes it more brutal.

But Chloe and Clark just let it all out in this scene.

That he's scared of her writing his secret in an article. That she would keep whatever secret he asked. That he's running away.

Him dragging her to the door is really scary in how physically imposing he is compared to her tininess, it's so rare to feel Clark as a threat. And him screaming at her to get out of his life is just. Ow.





It happens in the phonebooth scene and with Chloe, but never with Lana. Hmm...





Oh Helen. SO POINTLESS.





Another really well-done sequence. Really.

What I like about this episode is if you take into account the original five-year-plan, this is basically supposed to be us going into the halfway point season. And this episode really does set up everything that is leading us to S5 and Jonathan's death and all Clark's choices that bring him to that point.






I've never been a huge Clark fan overall, but S3 and his entire arc dealing with the aftermath of this is absolutely my favorite for him. This episode is just so good and a testament to how great the show can be when you work to make Clark's arc compelling and have him fuck up and learn from it.

Funnily, even though Chloe is my favorite character with Lex in second, the strongest episodes of the series to me are often the ones when Clark is at the center and his story is interesting and taking the show places.

For good freaking reason!! This must be the most under-rated scene of all time! It's unbelievably incredible! In 9 years of SV, I don't think we have ever really seen a scene that was so...unleashed! There was so much emotion and tension! There have been so many fights on this show but this is the only one that felt...soooo real! TW and AM really brought the crazy in that scene! They both acted so well! Only can Chloe and Clark bring out that kind of emotion from eachother!

I think the thing I love most about it is that Chloe really shows how much she trusts Clark. Clark is obviously acting extremely OCC and even though he's, like twice her size, screaming at the top of his lungs, getting physically forceful with her, she still stands her ground, doesn't get scared, doesn't let him push her around and tells him off! Chloe Sullivan at her finest!

Yeah, that's also what I like about it. Even though I frankly find him absolutely terrifying when he drags her to the door, she looks less scared of him than she does deeply hurt when he screams in her face.

I think when TW renewed his contract after season five, he probably built it into his contract that he had to be asked approval for the shirtless scenes in advance or something. Since S6 is where they got Ollie to deliver the shirtless quota (and the producers mention on one of the DVD commentaries that he's the only actor who never bitched about shirtless scenes). I think the only times we've ever seen TW with his shirt off since S5 were in Crimson (S6 red K episode), the S7 premiere (Bizarro), and sex with Lana last year (but we only saw his shoulders lol)? Plus open shirt last year when making out in the elevator with slutty alien chick, and showing Chloe his abs that one time.

And the Lois dream future flashes this year, but they used body doubles for the wide shots, so those are just his shoulders again... =w=

Lana at the funeral = best Lana hair everrr, though I also loved her "I AM GOING TO PARIS, CHECK OUT HOW BOHEMIAN AND SEXY IT IS" hair in the finale that year.

idk, I really thought the makeup in the early seasons was too harsh a lot of the time... They really caked it on KK, and TW looked like he was really wearing hot pink lipstick a lot in the first few years. XD;

Man, even "Exile" had great Kent Family dynamics. Even when Clark was at his WORST, he still needed his parents (as was shown in the phonebooth scene). I always did love that.

Island!Lex would have been more awesome if he was running from a smoke monster.

Not only is it cool that Clark shows up at Lex's funeral, but as a Lexana shipper, I love that Lana is there, like his future widow. Okay, so she tries to KILL him, herself, 4 seasons later...what?

Exile and Phoenix are so great as a premiere, because they really give everyone something to do and show how every character is integral. ...except Pete. Um.

I still seriously believe they're together out there somewhere having really hot hatesex. Lana is cut off from Clark for life, like she wouldn't ping-pong right back to Lex? Until the show tells me otherwise, I'm assuming they're holed up somewhere together as Lex is healing and/or working on siphoning Luthorcorp funds off to get ready for his presidential bid, with both of them preparing a bunker for the alien invasion apocalypse. I just can't believe Lana wouldn't run right back to Lex after being cut off from Clark. Ending with her using her superpowers by becoming the SV Mercy equivalent would probably be my favorite possible ending for her ever.

Clark during his S3 arc and parts of S5 made his character more interesting and appealing to me as well. And this is one of my fave eps overall.

Yup, I only really like Clark in the odd-numbered seasons, except thing don't look good for him this year. XD; S3 is the only one where I find his arc genuinely compelling, though, I just find the whole aftermath to be so well-executed after this episode in terms of him dealing with consequences for his actions. Since consequences don't usually happen on SV very often, I enjoy it when they do.

OMG I love Exile. Even though I had my problems with the show back then, I kinda loved everyone back then. Martha running up to the loft when Clark bumps something over just breaks my heart. Bo going to Jor-El for help. Lana putting up those missing posters with the cheesiest pic of Clark ever. And I loved Lex running around that island.

That Chlark scene is one of my favorite all time Chlark scenes. I love it as a bookend to the Chlark scene in the S2 finale, where Clark pushed her and she threw a fit over Clana. But this Exile scene is like 10 times more....more. I think on one of the DVD commentaries they say that in one take, TW stumbled and fell down on AM pretty hard.

I was mocking SV something fierce from the start (S3 was on back-to-back with Angel, it was hard not to notice the difference in quality) but now I am so much more forgiving of the oldskool episodes. I MISS THEIR CHEESE. ALSO I MISS LANA EVEN AT HER WORST.
