meimichiWoke up at 9:27 for my 9:40 class. Considering that I live like...twelve blocks? from campus and the class in question was up on the part of campus with the zillion steps, I feel I deserve an award of managing to get there by 9:47 (no bus, no shuttle, just running as fast as I could!). The projector was broken so the lecture hadn't started yet when I got there, which was good.
Afterwards, though, Erica and I did lunch and then downloaded the new Hanadan from her room. The download took forever, though, so we ended up watching The Nightmare Before Christmas, and then live action Sailormoon on YouTube. She'd never seen it before, which made it even more awesome to mock together.
Then, Hanadan. One of her dormmates wandered in during Sailormoon, and she decided to just stick around for Hanadan despite not knowing Japanese. So basically, Erica and I were watching together, literally clinging to each other's hands for dear life, screaming bloody murder, and then waiting for a lull to briefly summarize the dialogue for the other girl.
I think this was the weakest episode so far, but it was far from bad, and filled with good moments. But I think there was too much filler, and everything they're bringing in next week kinda felt like it needed to be resolved this week instead.
Tsukasa has been doing nothing but having epiphanies lately. Running to her in the hospital two weeks ago felt like enough. But then last week, he had to have the epiphany in the hotel room. And again, this week, with Susumu.
The only thing that isn't clear is what he went through in New York, and now they've moved away from it completely this episode for the first time. It's diminishing the impact and the mystery of it, and that's unfortunate. That tension really amped up the first few episodes; having something internal instead of external seemed a great idea for a conflict, and for it to be forgotten this week was laaaame. I was okay with him mostly ignoring it last week since action was paramount, but even last week there were flashbacks too!
And Tsukushi? There was so little Tsukushi in this episode that I barely felt I saw her at all. What little there was, didn't really deal with her feelings. When she snapped at Tsukasa at the end, telling him he was a horrible excuse for a human being, her reaction seemed a bit much. It's not that she was wrong; she's totally the one in the right here! From her point of view, Tsukasa's done nothing but play with her feelings for the past year. But her snapping at him seemed overly harsh. Maybe I'll figure it out on the rewatch, but I didn't see why she was so angry at him. Just because he was out with Susumu? I don't get it.
Rui, however, was awesome. The Rui/Tsukasa fight was pretty fantastic.
ERICA: They are so gay for each otherrrr.
ME: It's like the mommy and the daddy of F4 are fighting and Akira is like, "STOP FIGHTING, THINK OF THE CHILDREN!! YOU NEED TO STAY TOGETHER FOR USSSS!!!"
ERICA: Yesss!
ME: But who's the mommy and who's the daddy? I can't decide.
ERICA: Rui is the F4 daddy and Tsukasa is the mommy.
ME: I would ordinarily argue for the other way around, but Rui did just use his angry!Daddy!voice, so...
Rui screaming at Tsukasa was just great. I actually wish they hadn't put it in the preview, it would have felt so shockingly unexpected if it hadn't been in the promo. And the flashback where Rui reminded Tsukasa that if he didn't take care of Makino, then he'd step in! I'd forgotten about that.
The Susumu side plot was really fun (still too much screentime though, I think they could have cut a minute or two to focus on Makino's feelings more), and MatsuJun did a fantastic job with the acting in the scene where Tsukasa had his epiphany and hugged Susumu. Yuriko's Tsukushi imitation was utterly priceless. Tsukasa trashing the cafeteria was awesome, it's nice to see the fire back in him again. Nishida being the one at the door was unexpected!
Oh, and while I love Tsukasa madly...even I think Shigeru is too good for him.
The really good stuff:
Tsukasa telling Tsukushi that "oresama" was not pleased with her. I told Erica about the whole, "I'm THE MAN!" thing, so when he said it, we burst into giggles and cackled, "I don't like it...because I'M THE MAN!"

Rui melting down, and the fight that followed. How he would go from screaming, back to his normal voice, was absolutely fantastic.
MatsuJun's acting in the Susumu scene. MatsuJun was typically great throughout (though someone needs to just put a stop to that emo yell of PAAAAAAIN, or I'm going to die laughing soon) but amazingly strong in that scene.

Okay this was possibly my favorite part of the episode. Because Rui going, "Tsukasa, we promised we wouldn't fight in front of the CHILDREN!" just about killed me. No, it's not WHAT he said, it's HOW HE SAID IT, and you know that HOW HE SAID IT made it totally OMG DARLING WE PROMISED NO FIGHTING IN FRONT OF THE KIDS!!!!
And Akira is all distressed over Mommy and Daddy not getting along!!!! And Tsukasa's like, "Are you hot for my girlfriend?"
And Rui's all, "She's not your fucking girlfriend, asshole. And YES."
And Tsukasa's all, "DOES. NOT. COMPUTE."

Sooo...I'm scared I might fail college this semester? I shouldn't even be doing picspam right now, but since I have more homework than I think I could finish if I worked 24/7 all weekend (I told Erica the work I need to do by Monday and she wailed, "I'm going to CRY!!" "I should be the one crying!!" "I'll cry for you!!"), I'm feeling less inspired and more fatalistic about the situation.
